SAH Profile Helen Southwell - Chair
Helen joined the committee midway through 2022 to support with preparations for
the 'Art Trail' and somehow managed to land the role of Chair six months later.
Helen is keen to support the long-established activities that have been a part of
Plain Arts for a number of years, resurrecting some old favourites that have fallen
by the wayside and looking for new and exciting opportunities to showcase the
work of our talented group of artists.
Helen is a working glass artist. She studied Ceramics and Textiles at university, and
since retiring from a high-profile job in education in 2021 is looking forward to having
more time to dedicate to her art. She is now combining her experience as a teacher
with her creative passion and offering 1 to 1 tuition, workshops, school and
community projects. Her work can be seen on her website: www.theglassroom.uk
SAH Profile

David Walker - Coordinator
I have been the Plain Arts Co-ordinator for the past 8 years, overseeing the running of the

Committee and ensuring that the local community is made aware of the wealth of artistic
talent that lies on their very doorstep. I have been constantly looking for new opportunities
and projects that will promote the work of Plain Arts members and developing working
relationships with local organisations such as the Salisbury Library, Fisherton Mill,
Salisbury Cathedral and Waterstones. In addition I have been the editor of the popular
Plain Arts newsletter.
I have been a professional photographer for the past 40 years following my two main interests
of travelling and photography. I am currently drawn to the extraordinary development of
street art and how people live with this as part of their daily lives.
